In January 2002, a TV director who did not live in London was staying with me while he filmed a series starring a then-unknown comedian (who has since become very well-known). In this extract from my January 2002 diary, I have called the director Sid Snot and the comedian Jolly Jack…

Sid Snot’s series stars a comedian I have never heard of called Jolly Jack.
In one episode, Jolly Jack will persuade a prostitute (with pimp) to spend a week living with his (Jolly Jack’s) mother. “He’s good looking and he has no problem attracting girls,” Sid told me, “But he does just sometimes use prostitutes. Mostly in Soho. So they don’t have pimps. So that’s a problem.”
